In case you're wondering about the "calling cards," she means owl pellets. They may leave enough of the victim for identification, and they certainly leave no doubt about what sort of predator did the killing. On the other, um, talon, owls aren't likely to leave evidence at the scene of the prey's capture; it's just a quick, quiet swipe.
