In case you're not up on the literary classic and haven't figured it out for yourself, Algernon is a mouse, and (mild spoiler) the flowers are funerary. Virgil can be mean.

It turns out there have been two TV movies and a miniseries by that title, plus an upcoming project with little info available yet. The best-known adaptation goes by another title, Charly.

That story has been real useful for a lot of creative types, I remember reading a sci-fi version in the '70s as the first time I ran across it and being "I am 14 and this is deap" level impressed.
